I have been working on internationalization of XFree86's XTerm for more than one year. Recently I developed a patch for XTerm to support various encodings including Big5 and EUC-CN (as known as GB).
The patch is available at XFree86 i18n mailing list. Here is a detailed information how to use the patch.
As you know, XFree86's XTerm supports UTF-8. My patch invokes luit to convert between UTF-8 and various encodings. Volunteers who will improve luit to support GBK and GB18030 are welcome.
Now the patch is under discussion in the mailing list. When the discussion will finish, the patch will be posted to formal patch address of XFree86. Opinions are welcome.
